Eden Project Geothermal Drilling

The Eden Project is a well known environmental experiment in an abandoned mine in Cornwall. They are massive Bio-Domes that simulate many different habitats such as the rain forest. Scientists can use the to measure our impact on these habitats. Now they are trying to answer our long-term energy needs with this geothermal drilling projects. What they are doing is drilling many miles beneath the surface of Cornwall down to naturally radioactive 300 million year old granite. There is a lot of heat down there and it can be used to heat many homes. They then pump water down (which is in a loop so they don’t waste any). It is a step forward, we need to start thinking about how to get energy from a clean and sustainable source
